This 7 day class, taught by Mary Funt will take you through the steps to create your own designer French jacket. Prior to class, you’ll receive detailed instructions for making a muslin toile (mock-up) of the jacket. We’ll perfect the fit in class and begin construction. First steps will be how to lay out, cut and shape the fabric to achieve a perfect match along the princess seams.  I will also demonstrate how to convert a two-piece sleeve into the classic three-piece style as well as draft a stand collar. Included will be a session on creating custom trim to perfectly coordinate with your fabric. You will receive a downloadable 100-plus page construction manual outlining the French jacket construction process.

You will be guided through modifications such as adding a stand collar, zipper closure, sleeve vent variations or V-neckline.  We will also examine couture finishing techniques such as hand-worked buttonholes.

I have switched to a larger space and smaller class size, which allows for cutting tables and pressing stations equipped with professional tools in the classroom. You will also have use of a sewing machine with walking foot so no need to bring your machine unless you wish to. Several sergers are also available. Please bring your own personal tools such as scissors, pins, etc.

This class is also an opportunity to (hopefully) complete a previously started French jacket. I’ve had very few people complete their jacket in 7 days. It takes me a solid week to make one and I’ve sewn dozens. Most get their jackets to the sleeve stage and there are still loads of tricks to be learned for a couture level finish. 

An extensive manual describing the construction techniques will be emailed to you after final payment (one month before class). You can download the manual to your computer/iPad or print it out. Bring to class for reference. 

Specialized sewing notions and couture buttons (with designer logo) will be available for purchase.

The class will be held at the DoubleTree Hotel, PGA Blvd., Palm Beach Gardens, FL. A block of rooms at a discounted rate has been reserved.

Cost of the 7 day workshop is $1925.00 ($1875.00 if final payment is by check). A $400.00 deposit will secure your spot. Payment in full is due by December 8, 2023. Your payment may be applied in full to another class if you wish.  Cancellations prior to December 8, 2023 will receive a full refund less an administrative fee of $50.00

There are no refunds for cancellations after December 8, 2023 unless I am able to fill your place in class.
